How to use the Seamless Pattern Maker

  1. Upload a motif (PNG with transparency works best) or try the sample.
  2. Choose the repeat layout: straight, half drop, brick or mirror.
  3. Adjust scale, rotation and spacing until the rhythm looks right.
  4. Pick a background colour, or keep it transparent for PNG.
  5. Check the repeat dimensions at your print DPI, then download the seamless tile.

What this tool does

The Seamless Pattern Maker places your motif inside a repeat cell and arranges that cell in one of the four layouts textile printers use: a straight (block) repeat, a half drop, a brick repeat or a mirror repeat. Motifs that cross the edge of the cell are wrapped around automatically, so the downloaded tile is always seamless.

The red outline in the preview marks one complete repeat tile — the rectangle you send to a printer or define as a pattern in Photoshop. For a half drop with a ½ offset that tile is two columns wide; for a brick repeat it is two rows tall; for a four-way mirror it is twice the size in both directions.

Examples

Ditsy floral for dress fabric

Upload a small flower with a transparent background, choose Half drop, set spacing to around 40% and scale to 60%. The diagonal flow of a half drop hides the grid and reads as an all-over print.

Bold geometric for cushions

Use a single geometric shape with Mirror → 4-way and spacing at 0%. Mirroring creates a symmetrical medallion that suits home décor and upholstery.

Testing a finished tile

Already have a repeat from Photoshop? Upload it with spacing at 0% and the straight layout. If you see seams, open the Seamless Pattern Checker for an edge analysis.

Tips for better repeats

  • Keep motif files at least 1500 px on the long edge so the exported tile holds detail at 300 DPI.
  • Vary the motif size and orientation in your source artwork; a single identical motif repeated on a straight grid creates obvious lines (“tracking”).
  • Use the repeat dimensions panel to match a size your printer or mill asks for, for example a 32 × 32 cm repeat.
