When to use a brick repeat
In a brick (or half-brick) repeat, every second row shifts horizontally by half of the repeat width — just like bricks in a wall. It suits motifs that read along horizontal lines, such as borders, stripes with spot motifs, animals walking in one direction and many wallpaper designs.
Examples
Directional animals
Animals or figures that should all face the same way look orderly in a brick repeat while still avoiding stacked columns.
Geometric tiles
Hexagon-like and scale patterns often emerge naturally when a rounded motif is placed in a brick layout with zero spacing.
Frequently asked questions
What size is the exported brick tile?
One cell wide and two cells high for a ½ offset. That rectangle repeats on a straight grid.
Can I combine brick with mirroring?
Not in a single step. Create a mirrored tile first with the Mirror Repeat Generator, then load that tile here.
