Pattern Recolor Tool
Detect your pattern’s colours automatically, remap each one while keeping texture and shading, and build a set of colourways in minutes.
Runs in your browser — images are never uploadedHow to use the Pattern Recolor Tool
- Upload a pattern (flat-colour artwork works best).
- Choose how many colours to detect.
- Click the right-hand swatch in each row to pick a new colour.
- Use the quick colourway sliders to shift hue, saturation or lightness for everything at once.
- Save each colourway, compare them, and download the one you like.
How recolouring works
The tool groups the pixels of your pattern into a small number of colour families using k-means clustering. Each family is then remapped to the new colour you choose. In Keep shading mode the tool shifts every pixel by the same amount as its family, so texture, brush strokes and anti-aliased edges survive. In Flat colour mode every pixel becomes exactly the new colour — ideal for screen-print style separations.
Examples
Seasonal colourways
Take a summer floral, shift the hue by about −30° and lower lightness for an autumn version, then save both as colourways to compare.
Matching a client palette
Paste the client’s hex codes into each colour picker. The coverage percentage shows which colour dominates, so you can assign the client’s main colour to the largest area.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some details changing colour unexpectedly?
Two similar colours may have been grouped together. Increase the number of detected colours so they are separated.
Does it work with photographic textures?
It works, but results are less precise because photos contain thousands of colours. Use more colours and the Keep shading method.
Are my colourways stored?
Saved colourways stay in your browser tab until you close it. Saved projects across devices are planned for Pro.
