Half Drop Repeat Generator
Create a half drop repeat — each column drops by half the repeat height — and download the full rectangular tile.
Runs in your browser — images are never uploadedHow to use the Half Drop Repeat Generator
- Upload your motif or a finished straight-repeat tile.
- Keep the layout on Half drop and choose the offset: ½, ⅓ or ¼.
- Adjust spacing so motifs fill the diagonal gaps evenly.
- Check the grid overlay to see how columns step down.
- Download the seamless tile and tell your printer it is ready for a straight repeat.
Why designers choose a half drop
A half drop repeat moves every second column down by half the height of the repeat. The motifs line up on diagonals instead of horizontal rows, which disguises the grid and creates a more natural, all-over look. It is the most common layout for florals, conversationals and dress prints.
This generator also supports ⅓ and ¼ drops, which create longer diagonal steps — useful for large-scale prints where a half drop still looks too regular.
Examples
Tossed florals
A single bouquet at 30–50% spacing in a half drop gives an even, tossed appearance without having to arrange many motifs by hand.
Converting for a printer that only accepts straight repeats
Most digital textile RIPs repeat a rectangle on a straight grid. Download the tile from this tool — it already contains the drop — and upload it as a straight (block) repeat.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a half drop repeat tile?
For a ½ drop it is two cells wide and one cell high. For a ⅓ drop it is three cells wide, and for a ¼ drop four cells wide.
Is a half drop the same as a brick repeat?
No. A half drop offsets columns vertically; a brick repeat offsets rows horizontally. Both hide the grid, but the diagonal runs in different directions.
